new written theories as a possible palliative for anxiety

roof: probably ok. probably no leaks. I think it would smell funny if I stuck my head up the hatch and there was mold or rot in there. it smells as neutral as anything could smell. eerily odorless, like a dry, odorless void.

2nd bedroom: it still has the smell it’s had ever since I moved in, even tho I removed what I thought might be the offending wood a week or two ago. it’s less pronounced than it was when I first moved in, but the same kind of smell. the smell seems to have no specific origin. I have literally crawled around sniffing, to try to find a part of the room that smells worse… to try to find something particularly smelly. likewise I have smelled up high, in all corners, with the ladder. but the smell is perfectly uniform throughout the space. it is not a terrible smell, but, one still wonders. it could even be a dog smell. it smells a little like dogfood or maybe an old person slept and/or died in there at some point. it’s a little like an old library smell, but slightly less pleasant. like a dog food library. last night I took two boxes of baking soda and scattered it all around the floor. I will vacuum that up in a day or two.

ceilings: probably no reason to tear them apart. in fact I’m not even sure if the discoloration in the fiberglass batts is former mold. it really might just be dirtiness. like I said, I stick my head up that hatch and it smells dry as a dry bone up there.
