mulling sanctions
May 24, 2010 @ 10:02 am

I’ve fallen way behind on reading my blog. I don’t know what I’ve been writing tho I imagine a lot of it is just about plants so I’m not missing much.

I will set aside a little time for it and let you know what I find out.

work-like things in work-like times of days. not exactly.

I’ve fallen behind on most things except survival and plants. I’m a subsistence farmer now.

shhhh, it’s Monday.

why I write
May 23, 2010 @ 9:32 am

other than something obvious like to tell you your uncle has died or because I drank coffee.

if you didn’t have language and then you learned language, you would probably want to write. you’d think about it and pretty often, from that point forward, you would write. you wouldn’t put it aside. you would sometimes write about writing.

it would be a lot like the Google pac-man logo, which I thought was avant garde and reminded me of LSD. usually that’s when a static picture becomes animated and interactive. tho previously some ads had been video games.

I don’t know if you’ll understand this but saturday night is a tower. a silly one that makes parents proud. they give you a chicken sandwich. you can drink. lizards are made to act like cultural arrows. shitheads lend a hat & cane to political tv shows. it is a peanut’s contrail. keep falling back on. affection is if you do the same thing your whole life. street names fall into disuse. talk about what does victory look like. you’re a character in an airport. it’s like a third dimension you can relax in. it’s falling on. it’s circulating. we’re a little embarrassed about the guy. as we affectionately call it. that’s a nod. an abbreviated prefix. not your father’s father. I think my grandfather was a sleazy old deadbeat because I have only one photo of him and in it he looks like a sleazy old deadbeat. plus I’ve heard him described that way by people who knew him. so I have the benefit of flour. it’s not one of those ingredientless cakes. even air has cakes. a lot of things you can drive around. in that context a manhole cover is exciting. there was only one problem. he stayed up laughing. he practiced his phone. and sometimes there’s a way even when there isn’t a will, like a snow day in summer school.

but I committed the error to memory. to instinct. I thought of something to do the rescue work.

beanstalks coming up
May 22, 2010 @ 6:31 pm

listening to joy division, writing e-comme/rce softw/are, smelling the ga/nja waft in through the window from the neighbor’s grandkids hanging out out back.

good times at the arboretum today. the asian collection. I don’t remember it being that good. vast. so much to see. and then I visited the youth garden, where some people roughly my age, or a bit younger, were working. I asked some questions about growing tomatoes. it was better than youtube. he pointed things out to me.

tomorrow I’m going to re-plant my two tomato plants. I picked up some free compost from ft totten station.

this time I’m going to bury the plants. that’s what you do. you bury the plant, leaving only a few top leaves above ground. this because roots can grow laterally from anywhere along a tomato stalk. so the entire plant becomes a root which ultimately will make what’s above ground bigger and produce better fruit.

the arboretum smells really good this time of year.

my bean plants have begun to come up. little green arches shaped like upsidedown U’s, about a centimeter high.

news
May 22, 2010 @ 10:48 am

now is the time on saturday when we decide whether to get caught up in a project, or, if not, then we try to remember what we do when we’re not caught up in a project.

#####################
PLANTS SUPPLEMENT:

I re-potted the calathea yesterday and it has taken well to the new larger pot. also it had needed some water. perked back up.

yesterday I went to that one nursery on the desolate part of new york ave. ya know the one you pass sometimes, if you do. it was ok. I bought a japanese dwarf garden juniper ($30) and a sedum spurium ($4). The latter is a small perennial with bubbly red/green foliage. it likes sun and dry soil. the dwarf juniper I am pleased with for the deep, vibrating color. it may be my favorite plant to date. I like the color of the color as well. and I have been wanting a juniper with a spreading/mounding habit.

######################
MOSQUITOS:

there are some mosquitos out there at all hours. not yet many, but I did get a few bites yesterday. I’ve been careful not to let things fill up with water. but there will be mosquitos regardless. thoughts of setting up a couple of poles so I will have recourse to the camping hammock… which has a screen over top. tho that will not allow me to work on the garden. ah well pants and sleaves, and a little picaridin spray for the hands and neck.

###################
NOT SURE YET:

first thing this morning I had thoughts of tearing up the floor in the upstairs hallway. but no. must resist! one thing will lead to another. time will be gone and I’ll wind up with as many new problems as I had old problems. do it some other time.

###################
WEATHER:

p.m. showers today and for several days to come.

I think the preponderance of animated kittens means they’re not touring right now.

was your first association GWB? Wham? Mel Gibson?

I just checked to see how many blogspot blogs I have. I know I started about 5 or 6, most during the same year or two. I guess most are down or private but I see july can quit is still public. I read maybe half of it just now and it’s good. especially the shorter pieces. some of the prose I didn’t necessarily want to read all of, tho some of it was good. among the blog I was glad to find my notes on yon fucshia praam, which I thought I had lost. the poem is an isolated early precursor of the poetry machine, a dictionary-based and rules-based poem. tho in that case, I did it manually. I’m glad to find the note because now if I want I can write the software for those rules, something I was wishing to do last december. just because it’s a good set of rules. tho the last sentence in the note leaves in doubt whether there may have been re-arranging of words, and I don’t remember if there were.
